all you need is a line wrench.take the line loose from the rack and then the pump and change it.you will have to bleed it after you get done.

Can someone provide me with a link to how to change a power steering pump?
for a 2004 Ford Taurus.
The part is only like 65.00, but the auto repair shop wants to charge me 194 for the part, and 140 for labor.
I may have people who can fix it for me, if they can check out the process before, and see what it involves.Can someone provide me with a link to how to change a power steering pump?

Power steering pumps require one special tool. for you ,you ll need the GM pulley puller $29 at northern or autozone. you cant get the pump out of the bracket without removing the pulley. after you have the right tools its gravy . loosen the belt remove the pulley ,pump. install the new pump ,use the tool to press the pulley back on and reinstall the belt. Now you have to bleed the air out and that can be messy. leave the filler lid off after putting in new fluid and turn the wheel from lock to lock several times. if you didnt let any air in the lines during your repair you should be good to go. Its not as simple as it sounds. Be ready for some cussing . pressure wash your engine and put a large drip pan under the car before you start and at least youve saved some grief . have some fun, if you screw up the worst thing is you tow your car to the shop. Well if just the line is leaking change it not the pump.
If it is the pump, getting it out is not easy, but you can do it.
Get the pump and you willn notice that it comes without the pully. Depending one if it is held on with just a nut just remove the nut. If you look at it and there is no nut, you will have to get a puller. You can rent one from AUTO-ZONE and have him tell you how to use it . The kit with the puller comes with the puller and thr installer. So it can be don.
AS to that much money for the line I doute it. That person doesent know what he is talking about or it is way over priced.

Working on these cars with cramped engine bays always sucks pretty bad, but if you have a modest set of tools and are determined, you can do the job yourself. Some advice: Buy a new ps pump, dont try to save a few bucks buying a used one from a junkyard. Be very careful when you are removing the fittings from the old pump and re-installing them on the new pump - dont cross thread anything etc etc.
The job itself is straightforward, remove all fittings and hoses from the old pump. Unbolt the old pump from its mounting brackets. Mount the new pump. Re-attach all the hoses and fittings. Fill with new power steering fluid and then bleed the system. Bleeding the system usually just consists of turning the steering wheel from lock to lock several times while making sure the fluid level in the pump remains where its supposed to be (look at the power steering fluid dipstick for reference). This gets any air out of the system.
Have fun, do your work carefully, and enjoy doing this project for less than a hundred bucks. Should take even a beginner less than 90 minutes including prep time.

Random aftermarket pulley removal tools are weak and sloppy as they thread inside the power-steering pump shaft. *It would pay you great dividends if you took the old pump with the pulley attached and the new pump to your local Ford Dealership or a private mechanic and let them swap the pulleys. Be careful of the little white, fine teflon high pressure coupling ring.

Then (I assume you own a power steering flush machine or you will void your warranty) hook up the flush machine and flush the entire system. you don't NEED any specific tool, it just makes the job a whole lot easier. I'm not sure if napa does or not. As for how to, That is a long explanation, you'd do yourself a much bigger service to go buy a haynes or chilton repair manual and they have step by step instructions on how to do it all.
